1.System Overview

The Mechanical Actuation Kitchen Fire Suppression System is a fixed automatic fire extinguishing system specifically designed for commercial kitchens with high fire risk. The system uses temperature-sensing elements as the means of actuation. When a fire occurs in kitchen appliances and the ambient temperature reaches the rated operating temperature of the thermal element (such as a fusible link), the heat-sensitive device operates and releases the steel cable actuation mechanism, automatically discharging the extinguishing agent to rapidly suppress fires involving cooking appliances, including cooking ranges, deep fryers, exhaust hoods, and exhaust ducts.

The system features a simple structure and high reliability. It is particularly suitable for commercial kitchen environments where system independence is required or where power supply conditions are limited. It is one of the mature and widely applied kitchen fire protection solutions in the international market.

2. Key Advantages

Purely Mechanical Actuation – Independent and Reliable
The system is actuated directly by mechanical thermal detection devices and does not rely on electrical power or a control panel, ensuring reliable operation even during power outages.

Dedicated Extinguishing Agent for Grease Fires
A wet chemical extinguishing agent specifically designed for commercial kitchens is used. The agent forms a soapy blanket through saponification on the surface of high-temperature cooking oils, rapidly cooling the fuel and preventing re-ignition, providing excellent suppression of Class K fires.

Combination of Automatic and Manual Actuation
In addition to automatic mechanical actuation, the system is equipped with a manual pull station or manual release mechanism, allowing emergency manual operation when required.

Multi-Point, Targeted Discharge for Comprehensive Protection
Nozzles are strategically arranged to provide directed discharge over cooking ranges, deep fryers, exhaust hoods, and within exhaust ducts, ensuring full protection of critical kitchen fire hazard areas.

Easy Installation and Maintenance with Low Life-Cycle Cost
With a proven design and minimal components, the system requires low maintenance and offers cost-effective operation, making it well suited for chain restaurants and large-scale commercial kitchen applications.

3. How It Works

1 Initial Detection

When a kitchen appliance (such as a fryer) catches fire and the temperature reaches the threshold set by the thermal sensor (e.g., a fusible link), the thermal device activates, triggering the wire release mechanism and initiating a fire signal:

2 Fire Suppression Activation

  • The mechanical actuator, driven by a spring mechanism, activates the driving gas cylinder to release high-pressure nitrogen.

  • Nitrogen is depressurized and enters the agent storage cylinder, forcing the release of the suppression agent.

  • The agent is discharged through nozzles positioned above stoves, hoods, and ducts for uniform distribution and rapid extinguishing.

  • After discharge, the system transitions to the pressure release phase.

3 Signal Feedback and System Interlock

While the suppression agent is being discharged to extinguish the fire, the fire signal feedback device activates and sends an alarm signal to the fire alarm control panel (FACP).

  • The FACP activates the audible and visual alarm and sends out interlock control commands.

  • Automatically shuts off the gas supply.

  • Shuts down the exhaust duct fan and disconnects power to kitchen equipment.

  • Shuts down ventilation and exhaust systems.

4 Cooling and Reignition Prevention

  • After agent discharge, the pressure in the discharge piping drops, triggering the interlock to open the water cooling valve (with optional delay).

  • Under low-pressure conditions, cooling water flows through the same piping to cool high-temperature surfaces. This effectively prevents reignition.
